Who is Kevin Warsh and what is his background?
The Federal Reserve just transformed the future of the Fed by appointing Kevin Warsh as the 17th chair of the Federal Reserve. The last chair, Jerome Powell, worked the Fed a lot differently and analysts are seeing Warsh as a “regime changer” in central bank operations.
Kevin Warsh was born in 1970 and is an American financier/attorney with lots of experience in both the private sector and public policy. He began his career at Morgan Stanley, and eventually became the vice president and executive director in their mergers and acquisitions department. Going into his policy background, he served as an assistant to President George W. Bush and was the executive secretary of the National Economic Council. Warsh also has previous experience in the Federal Reserve, as he was on the Board of Governors from 2006-2011.
In May of 2026, he was nominated by President Donald J. Trump in May of this year and won the senate 55-45, marking it the most narrow vote for a Fed Chair.
What are his stances on cryptocurrency?
Warsh is widely considered to be the most crypto friendly central banker in U.S history, and is not afraid to speak publicly about his stances. Warsh has characterized Bitcoin as “digital gold”, declaring it would be a sustainable source of value that young investors could jump onto. Unlike other traditional central bankers, cryptocurrencies do not make Warsh nervous, instead excited.
Although he believes in the rise of crypto, he stands against the government issued Central Bank Digital Currency. He notes that it is unfair to private sectors to capitalize on the formation of digital currencies, and that it should build itself before any government obligations to the currencies. If the private sectors can keep control of the stablecoins, it will give the power for more creative incentive when building new framework for regulations when concerning digital payments.
Kevin Warsh does not just talk the talk either, as he is the first Fed Chair to actually have a meaningful stake in crypto. He holds over 30 crypto related investments, and his wallet has been valued to be over a hundred million dollars.
Hundreds of investors have viewed his win in the chair as a step forward for digital currencies, and count on him more than ever to fill in the grey areas concerning regulations that have not been figured out since pre-Covid. Warsh is very broad when covering policies, but is strict on the policy that interacts with the liquidity needs of the digital asset market.
